Stop being awkward on camera
Seriously, stop it.
Why is it so awkward to speak into a camera?
“Let me just share my screen… okay can you see it?”
SO AWKWARD.
Being comfortable on camera is a skill that can improve video completion rates by up to 60%, and all it takes is some practice.
Here are four steps you can take to get comfortable on camera in a week or less:
Record for five minutes straight
Pretend the camera is a friend and tell them about one of your favourite topics. Don’t overthink it!
Listen to only the audio
Listen to how you come across. If it’s not right, record again and change your tone.
Watch the video on mute
The reverse of step two. This time, study your body language. In most situations you want to look confident, open, and inviting.
Transcribe your audio (optional)
This is totally optional, but it helps you find bad speaking habits. Maybe you use too many filler words, or you talk in circles. That’s no biggie in a conversation, but will make your video content less engaging, so be mindful of it when recording.
And that’s it! The simplest, most effective way to get comfortable on camera. Do this every day for a week and you’ll be ready for the spotlight.
You can also run through these steps at the start of filming anything important. The little bit of time upfront is totally worth it
Forward this to your team and you’ll have in-house talent in no time.
See ya in a few weeks,
